How to Become a Pharmacy Technician in North Carolina

There are a few basic requirements to get in to formal training at pharmacy tech schools or with your employer. You’ll need a HS diploma/equivalent, or be enrolled in high school to become a pharmacy tech in this state. All candidates will also need to register for a work permit in pharmacy assisting with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

Fulfill all Required Clinical Training

If you have chosen on the job or formal approved training, you will still have to graduate from it. Make sure you do within 180 days of initial employment at a new job in a North Carolina pharmacy.

Pass Certification Testing

There are two nationally-accepted pharmacy technician certification exams you can choose to take for certification in North Carolina. They are the PTCE and ExCPT. Both are nationally-recognized and give the title of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
