Over the next decade patient care tech schools in Florida will be responding to a very high demand for the services of fully trained and high skilled patient care techs! The healthcare industry is seeing incredible growth and the need for qualified patient care technicians is tremendous!
The main function and core job of a patient care tech is to care for their patients in their day to day tasks and lives. These patients are commonly the elderly and the very ill. Nurse aides, patient care techs and home health aides are all similar for that they care for these same patients but there is a main difference that separates the patient care tech from the others. That difference is the education, the skills that they have earned and what they can do for their patients. A PTC for example, can do phlebotomy treatments and do an EKG reading. A CNA or a HHA cannot do these procedures. The PCT is a great starting healthcare career for the fact that is easy to jump from a PCT to an LPN or RN with a bridge program.
How to Become a PTC in Florida
In Florida most PCT programs are between 3 and 6 months. If the program is shorter that will probably be because they require a CNA certification before enrollment. If the program does not require the CNA certification before enrollment in to the PCT program, you can expect the program to be about 6-9 months. Once you meet program entry requirements and pass your training, you can then take the certification exam.
