The process to become a medical assistant in New York requires the following five steps.

Step 1 – Decide if you want to Become Certified in NY as a Medical Assistant

Getting your certification in medical assisting in New York presents a advantages that not being certified gives you. They are higher pay, better employment opportunities and more. Since certification is not mandated by the state it should be known that you can still work as a medical assistant if you are not certified. There are two different kinds of credentials that might be earned by graduating from a formal medical assistant training course. The two types are earning an associates degree and getting a certificate in medical assisting.

Step 3 – Sign-up for an Accredited NY Medical Assisting Program

Medical assistant programs in New York are required by state law to be accredited by multiple agencies including the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Graduation from an accredited medical assistant class is vital, since you will not be able to advance to the following step without having done so. Courses in New York require you to satisfy a minimum number of training hours in a clinical environment.
