Step 3 – Sign-up for an Accredited NY Medical Assisting Program

Medical assistant programs in New York are required by state law to be accredited by multiple agencies including the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). For you to become eligible to test for certification, you will need to first complete a training course that is approved by one of these organizations. Step 4 – Complete your hours of clinical training

Graduation from an accredited medical assistant class is vital, since you will not be able to advance to the following step without having done so. Courses in New York require you to satisfy a minimum number of training hours in a clinical environment.

You cannot be approved to challenge a certification exam until you have completed all of the required hours.
