Tips to Become a Massachusetts Medical Assistant

Massachusetts does not require certification for their medical assistants to work in the state as medical assistants. But, most employers do want their MAs to hold certifications and the state of Massachusetts recognizes the certifications listed and detailed at our guide for certification here. Step 1 – Make a Plan to get Certified or Not

Even though it is not required by the state of Massachusetts and law to be certified to be employed as a medical assistant it is something that is becoming the new “normal”. This is for a few different reasons. One being higher pay ceiling, another being better chances of being hired and a brighter career path.

Step 2 – Choose Your Respective Level of Education You Want to Earn

All aspiring medical assistants have to complete an associate degree program or get their certificate in medical assisting to be a medical assistant in the state of Massachusetts.

Step 3 – Take Massachusetts Medical Assisting Training That is Accredited

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. You need to finish and graduate from a program approved by one of them to be approved to take the certification exam in the state. Step 4 – Meet the Demands for Clinical Training for Certification Eligibility

Graduation from an accredited medical assistant class is critical, as you won’t be able to move forward to the next step without having done so. Programs in Massachusetts require you to finish a minimum number of instruction hours in a clinical setting.

You will not be able to take a certification test until you have completed all of the required hours.
