Step 1 – Make the decision to be Certified or not as a Medical Assistant in KY

The state of Kentucky does not require their aspiring medical assistants to get a certification to be eligible for employment in the state as medical assistants. That being said, it is a very good idea to get one for a few reasons. One is higher pay, two is better chances at hiring and third is an enhanced career outlook.

After you decide if you are going to get certified, you will have to choose to get a certificate or an associates degree in medical assisting. Both options will work for becoming a medical assistant in the state of Kentucky.

Step 3 – Take an Accredited Medical Assisting Program in Kentucky

Medical assistant programs in Kentucky are required by state guidelines to be accredited by multiple organizations including the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). You need to complete a program sanctioned by one of these organizations to be eligible to test for certification in the state. Step 4 – Finish all mandated Kentucky clinical training hours

Completing your Kentucky medical assistant training program is an essential first step, but to go forward with the certification process every program requires that would-be medical assistants finish a set number of instruction hours in a clinical environment.

You are not eligible to challenge a certification exam unless you have completed the mandatory hours.
