What is the process to become an Emergency Medical Technician in Wyoming?
If you would like to become an EMT or Paramedic in Wyoming, you’re going to be expected to finish a formal training course. It is a legal criteria that any EMT or Paramedic in the state have a professional certification. The following steps are necessary to become an EMT in Wyoming per the WY Dept. of Health guidelines.
Step 1: Complete an accredited EMT school in WY
You need to complete an accredited, WY Dept. Health approved and authorized Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program. You need to have finished an accredited program in the previous 24 months and be placed on the National Registry (see below) prior to challenging the certification examination. All EMT programs are accredited and approved by the Wyoming Department of Health. EMT training is available at an assortment of institutions, some places where you can get your education are at junior colleges, trade schools, hospitals and traditional universities. You can even find them at firemen and police academies.
Step 2: Pass the NREMT Examinations for EMT Certification in WY
Wyoming uses the NREMT exam for certifying their emergency medical techs. It is a two exam certification process and is nationally recognized as the best way to test the knowledge and skills of an aspiring EMT. Pass the exams and you can apply for your license in Wyoming as an EMT. All NREMT tests in Wyoming are given by PearsonVue at their testing facilities across the state.
Step 3: Get Your EMT License in Wyoming and Get on EMT Registry
The final step in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician in Wyoming is to apply for your EMT license and get listed on the EMT registry from the NREMT. THe EMT registry costs $80 and after getting certified, you can get listed. To apply for licensure from the Wyoming Department of Health, you will need to create an account online with the Online Wyoming licensure System, or (OWLS) system. A background check and finger prints on an FBI blue card also will done for licensure. There is a $39 fee for the background check and a $5 fee for the fingerprinting.
