The Necessary Steps to Become a Washington State Dental Assistant
The (DQAC) Washington State Dental Quality Assurance Commission within the Washington Department of Health is responsible for all working dental assistants in the state.
Any Washington State Registered Dental Assistants must complete all required forms, pay a fee, complete 7 hours of AIDS training and education and also hold a current basic life support (BLS) certification for health care providers. On top of that, you will need to renew annually too.
Getting qualified in sealant/fluoride varnish solely as a (RDA) Registered Dental Assistant has a requirements to be able to perform the function in Washington. We list them below:
Sealants on Children in School Based Programs – 200 hours of work experience training (didactic and clinical) with sealants and fluoride varnish treatments. All have to be verified by the training dentist. Completion of an approved training program is also accepted.
Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia – Receive at least 14 hours of documented training which must include instruction and practical experience using the necessary appropriate anesthesia equipment.
All (EFDA) Expanded Function Dental Auxiliarys in Washington have already graduated from a CODA approved dental assisting program or they already carry a DANB (CDA) certification and have already successful finished an EFDA training program that is currently approved by the (DQAC) Dental Quality Assurance Commission, passed the clinical test given by (WREB) Western Regional Examining Board, passed the (WARE) Washington State Restorative Exam that is given by DANB, and after all of that they have taken and completed the 7 hour AIDS training mandatory for all Washington State dental assistants.
If you live in Washington and want to become a Dental Anesthesia Assistant, you will need to fulfill a longer list of requirements due to the nature and function of the job and duties. You will have to successfully take and pass the (DAANCE) Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination given by the (AAOMS) American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the (CALAOMS) California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons training course, take and complete a program in phlebotomy or venipuncture, (BLS), (ACLS) and (PALS) certifications that are current and also complete your 7 hour Washington State AIDS training that all dental assistants in the state must take and pass.
