Become a Dental Assistant in North Carolina

The North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners is the regulating body for dental professionals across North Carolina. We differentiate the titles for you below.

DA I – Basic chairside duties and tasks are available to all dental assistants. If you candidates want to do more expanded duties they must take extended training courses to become proficient in those procedures.

DA II – The Dental Assistant II in North Carolina has to complete an ADA-accredited dental assisting program and also have current certification in CPR or one academic year or longer in an ADA-accredited dental hygiene program, and current certification in CPR. The completion of the Dental Assistant certification examination administered by the (DANB) Dental Assisting National Board and current certification in CPR and they must also complete a 3-hour course in sterilization and infection control, a 3-hour course in dental office emergencies and have current certification in CPR.

Once you have decided what level of dental assistant you want to become, you can then plan out your education. Attend CODA approved dental assistant training in NC and you can then sit for the certification examination. Pass the certification exam and you will be on your way!
