How to become a dental assistant in New York.

The process for becoming a dental assistant in New York may be summed-up in the following four actions. Lets get going now!

Step 1 – Complete your high school diploma or GED

Regardless of the career you choose to pursue, earning a high school diploma should be considered the initial step. When considering occupations in the healthcare industry, this is especially true. There are some positions in the industry that can be held without a high school diploma, but they generally offer very little room for growth.

Step 2: Register for a CODA-approved training course in NY

Searching for a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-accredited training program is the second step if you’ve decided to get certified. Dental assistant programs throughout the nation are regulated by the CODA, who operates to standardize education in the trade around the nation. Accreditation by the CODA is regarded as imperative since only graduates from a program in NY that is accredited by this organization may take either of the national certification exams.

Step 3: Graduate from the NY program and complete the necessary internship hours

Once you’ve located an accredited program that meets your needs, the next thing is to complete it. The academic and hands-on portions of the conventional program can be finished in twelve months or less.

The classroom segment of your training will most likely include all of the theory and procedural-type content that will be found in the certification examination. The internship, in contrast, will supply you with the opportunity to put what you learn into use in a live, professional setting.

Step 4: Pass the NELDA or CDA Certification Exam

In order to get a nationally-accepted dental assistant certification, you need to pass either the NELDA or CDA examination. After you’ve completed a CODA-approved program, you’ll become able to take either one of them. A passing score on either exam will grant you the title Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).
