How to become a dental assistant in Missouri

The Missouri Dental Association is the regulating body in charge of all dental professionals in Missouri and according to their dental practice act, all basic dental assisting procedures can be done by a dental assistant if they are under direct supervision of a licensed dentist at the time of performing the procedures. No training or certification is required to do the basic functions of a dental assistant in Missouri.

All Missouri DANB CDA certified dental assistants are able to perform assistance in the administration of nitrous oxide to patients if they have successfully taken and subsequently completed a Missouri Dental Association approved training course and also then passed the competency test that goes with it.

The highest level of dental assistant in Missouri is the Expanded-Functions Dental Assistant. To become one you will have to get a permit from the Missouri Dental Association.
