What is the procedure to become a dental assistant in Louisiana?

Dental professionals and all dental assisting certifications and licenses are regulated by the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. There are two levels of dental assistant in Louisiana and we detail them for you below.

Entry Level Dental Assistant – Position requires no specific education or training for the most the ability to perform the most basic assisting functions on the job.

(EDDA) Expanded Duties Dental Assistants – To become an EDDA in Louisiana you must graduate from a CODA approved and accredited dental assisting course with training in expanded functions. Then, you will have to complete a Louisiana State Board of Dentistry approved radiography course, and hold a CPR certificate that is also Louisiana State Board of Dentistry approved.
