There are two types of dental assistant in Arizona, the basic entry level dental assistant and the (EFDA) Expanded Function Dental Assistant. Entry Level Basic Dental Assistant – The job as a dental assistant at the entry level does not have any specific training or educational requirements. The job is for basic supportive tasks in the dental office.

(EFDA) Expanded Function Dental Assistant – The EFDA Expanded Functions Dental Assistant must obtain an Arizona Expanded Function-Restorative Certificate from the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners. There is also a requirement to complete a Arizona Expanded Function-Restorative Certificate, a Arizona Coronal Polishing and the Arizona Radiologic Proficiency certificate.
