What’s the process to become certified in Wyoming?
Becoming a Nursing Assistant in WY requires these specific five steps:
Step 1 – Get your HS diploma or G.E.D.
Getting your high school diploma is a critical fundamental to becoming employed in any type of skilled job. This is also the case when it comes to the majority of positions in medicine and health. Although it is possible to get some entry-level positions without at least a G.E.D., you may sooner or later find that opportunities for advancement are minimal.
Where CNA classes are concerned, you will also notice quickly that the majority of accredited training programs ask applicants to provide proof of a high school diploma or G.E.D. prior to beginning classes. And so, no matter your career goal, make sure that you take this step.
Step 2 – Register for training with a WY-approved CNA program
As previously mentioned, nursing assistant training in Wyoming is regulated by the Wyoming Board of Nursing. You will need to complete a program sanctioned by this organization in order to be eligible to test for certification in the state.
It is very important to check for several things when deciding on where to enroll for CNA training courses. Think about the following things when comparing one program to another:
- Find a program that is approved by the Wyoming Board of Nursing
- See that 70% of program graduates passed the WY nurse aide certification exam
- See if programs and classes fit your personal schedule
- Find out what the real life costs are, and absolutely make sure that you can afford it

Step 3 – Satisfy the state’s training hours requirement
Graduating from an accredited nursing assistant training program is imperative, because you will not be able to advance to the next step without having done so. Programs in Wyoming require you to satisfy the state minimum of 75 hours in a hands-on clinical environment, as well as 16 hours in classroom study.
The required hours must be satisfied before you’ll be allowed to sit for the NNAAP certification exam which is used in the state of WY.
Step 4 – Pass the NNAAP CNA certification exam
The official CNA certification test administered in Wyoming is the NNAAP. The examination asks the test taker to complete a segment consisting of written problems, and a clinical demonstration.
The written area of each test must be finished in a set time period, and requires you to respond to multiple-choice questions about the information that was discussed in your training program. An evaluator will lead you through the clinical portion of the examination, where you will have to display the patient skills you’ll need while working. You need to pass each section of the test to receive your certification.
PearsonVUE is the national examination service that gives the examination to aspiring nursing assistants in the state. Monthly evaluation locations in Wyoming are usually in the cities listed below. To determine when the next exam dates and times are at every location, please get in touch with the service directly.
All exam candidates have to pay $98 to take the NNAAP. It will also cost $65 to retake the skills examination and $33 to retake the knowledge examination.

Step 5 – Become listed on the WY Certified Nurse Aide Registry
Once you’ve passed the certification exam, the last step you must take to start earning a living as a CNA in Wyoming is having your name listed on the nursing aide registry. The registry is a checklist operated by the The Wyoming Dept. of Health which displays the names of any certified nursing assistants in the state. Unless your name is on this checklist, you will not be eligible to work. Fortunately, you typically will not have to do anything at all for this to happen.
The registry is normally informed by the exam service shortly after you’ve passed the NNAAP. In Wyoming, you are usually added to the list within a few weeks of passing the certification examination.
Please get in touch with your state registry directly with the info below if you have further questions.
