CNA classes in North Dakota are growing in demand every year! The latest data shows tremendous growth for all nursing aides and assistants across the country, not just in ND! Below we get in to the fine details of everything CNA in North Dakota. Employed at medical facilities that include everything from hospitals to nursing homes, nursing assistants and nurse aides are general healthcare providers who help other medical personnel with daily patient care.

How to become a CNA in North Dakota

All nursing assistants in North Dakota are regulated by the North Dakota Department of Health. For any employment within North Dakota, you have to complete all training requirements and get listed on the North Dakota Department of Health Nursing Aide Registry.

What’s the process to become certified in North Dakota?

Becoming a Nursing Assistant in North Dakota requires these particular steps:

Step 1 – Have a diploma or G.E.D.

No matter which career you choose to pursue, earning a high school diploma should always be regarded as the first step. With occupations in the medical field, this is particularly true. Even in cases when it is feasible to secure employment without your high school diploma, the positions usually do not offer much in terms of pay or opportunities for promotion.

While looking for a CNA certification class, you can expect to find that most programs require students to have a G.E.D. or diploma prior to enrollment. Take the time to finish this first basic step, and you will prevent a tremendous number of road blocks over your career.

Step 2 – Enroll in a North Dakota State approved CNA course

As previously mentioned, nursing assistant training in North Dakota is regulated by the ND State Dept. of Health. You must graduate from a program accredited by this organization to be approved to test for certification in the state.

It is important to check out several things when deciding where to register for training courses. You should think about the following as you compare programs:

  • Locate approved training by the ND Dept. of Health
  • Check that at least 70% of program grads passed ND Nursing Assistant Competency Exam
  • Be sure that any programs fit your schedule
  • Make sure costs are affordable for you

Locating North Dakota approved CNA classes

One must complete a training program approved by the North Dakota Department of Health before you can test for license in the state. The individual class sites approved by the NDDH change often so we think it is a good idea that you visit the NDDH here to see the latest updated list of approved programs and courses.

Step 3 – Meet the training hour requirements for North Dakota

Clearly, graduating from your nurse aide training program is an immensely essential first step. Successfully taking this step in the State of North Dakota means you have to complete 75 hours in the classroom and another 16 hours of hands-on clinical classes.

You will not be able to sit for the NNAAP until you have completed all of the required hours.

Step 4 – Pass the NNAAP

The official nursing assistant certification examination used in North Dakota is the NNAAP. The exam consists of a written part and a clinical part.

The written section of the assessment is made up of multiple-choice questions on stuff you covered in your courses, and has to be done in a set time period. An evaluator will direct you through the clinical section of the test, during which you will need to demonstrate the basic skills you would need when on the job. A passing grade on both segments of the examination is required in order to become certified.

The test is administered by the national testing provider PearsonVue. Monthly exam locations in North Dakota are usually in the metropolitan areas noted here. To determine when the upcoming exam dates are at each site, you need to talk to the service directly.

The cost of the NNAAP exam in North Dakota is $120.

Step 5 – Be listed on the North Dakota Nurse Aide Registry

The last step in becoming eligible for work as a CNA in North Dakota is getting your name listed on the ND State Dept. of Health CNA Registry. This is a listing of all of the nursing assistants in the state, and is maintained through the ND State Dept. of Health. Your name has to appear on this listing to work in the state. No action is typically necessary by you to make this happen.

Once you’ve passed the NNAAP, the testing company will alert the registry of your new status. In North Dakota, you are typically included on the list within a couple of weeks of passing the certification test.

If you have any inquiries about the registry, or your standing within it, you should contact it personally using the details provided below.

CNA salary and jobs in North Dakota

The need for CNAs is at historic levels in not only North Dakota, but throughout the whole U.S. Whereas the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts a 17% growth in brand new spots for nursing assistants across the country up through 2024, the agency expects to see a 21% growth in North Dakota. The bulk of new openings are expected to be created in nursing homes and hospitals. Certain government facilities additionally hire nursing aides, orderlies and assistants.

The chance to learn under licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs) also makes working as a nursing assistant a perfect stepping-stone to other careers in nursing in North Dakota.
