What are the Steps to Become an EMT in Pennsylvania?

Follow the steps laid out for you below and you will become an EMT in PA. Meet any training enrollment demands, pass your courses, pass the NREMT exam, get listed on registry and get your license and you are all set for your career goals.

Step 1: Meet Pre-Entrance Requirements for Classes

You can train become an Basic Level EMT in PA if you are 16 years old. If you want to become an EMT – Intermediate you will have to be at least 18 and have a HS diploma/GED.

Step 2: Complete a PA EMT training course

Pennsylvania has a requirement that all aspiring emergency medical technicians have to complete accredited EMT training and that they have to get their EMT certification. Make sure you choose the right school for you and that they are approved and you are all set to start your process to become a EMT in PA.

Step 3: Become CPR-BLS certified

CPR certification are a must for all emergency medical techs in the state of PA. If your training does not include it in the program (most do), you will need to check with them and be guided to where you can get yourself CPR certified.

Step 4: Pass the National NREMT Tests

Anybody trying to get their EMT certification in the state of Pennsylvania will have to take and successfully pass both NREMT exams (psychomotor and cognitive tests). Step 5: Get Added to National EMT Registry and Get Licensed in PA

The National EMT Registry has a fee of $80 has to be paid in order to apply for getting listed on the registry. You will also need to apply for licensure in the state of PA. There is a small fee for applying to the state as well.
