How you can Become a New Jersey Dental Assistant
All dental professionals in New Jersey are regulated and overseen by the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs. They have mandated that all unregistered dental assistants have the ability to perform basic supportive dental procedures (chairside functions) under the direct supervision by a licensed dentist in the state of New Jersey.
Under the New Jersey legislation the (RDA) Registered Dental Assistant must be registered with the Board and has the ability to perform expanded functions on patients. We walk you through how to become an RDA below.
(RDA) Registered Dental Assistant – Be a HS graduate or equivalent, pass the DANB CDA Certification examination, or the (COA) Certified Orthodontic Assistant Exam. All candidates will also have to have either two years experience, pass the NJ Expanded Duties – General Exam or graduate from a CODA approved dental assisting training program.

Cape May County Technical Institute requires students have their High School diploma or equivalent (foreign transcripts must be evaluated and translated), pass the CASAS test and be 18 years of age or older by September 1st of the enrolling year.
