How to Become a Dental Assistant in Kentucky

All dental professionals and dental assistant schools in Kentucky are regulated and overseen by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. There are four levels of dental assistant in the state of Kentucky and we will break them all down for you below.

Dental Auxiliary – The dental auxillary position in Kentucky is the entry level dental assistant. All basic tasks can be done on the job with no necessary training requirements form the Kentucky Board of Nursing. All training is done on the job by the licensed dentist.

Registered Dental Assistant – Becoming a Registered Dental Assistant in Kentucky requires a CPR certificate and that the dental assistant is registered with the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. All required training must be done and kept up with by the employer of the Registered Dental Assistant.

Registered Dental Assistant qualified in coronal polishing – Requires all the demands listed above for the other levels of dental assisting plus the completion of an 8 hour CODA approved coronal polishing training program.

the Registered Dental Assistant qualified in IV placement – Requires all the above demands for registered dental assisting plus completing Board approved IV placement training in Kentucky.
