The Steps to Becoming a Dental Assistant in Colorado

All the dental professionals, licensing, certification and dental assistants are overseen and regulated by the Colorado Dental Board.

Unlike most states, the Colorado Dental Board does not recognize the position of the (EDDA) Expanded Duties Dental Assistant, which is a title that would allow the performing of expanded tasks in the dental field, like coronal polishing and sealant applications. In Colorado state regulations declare that dental assistants can only perform basic duties and tasks that are of a supportive nature and if they get extended training in radiography they can perform x-ray and radiography work on the jobs. We detail them below.

1 – Be 18 Years old
2 – Get 3 hours of training in a classroom environment and 5 hours of clinical training in a program that is accredited by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.
3 – Receive training by the dentist in the job as long as the training is fully approved by the Colorado Dental Board, or you can take and pass the DANB (RHS) Radiation Health and Safety Test or you can take and pass the DANB (CDA) Certified Dental Assistant Test.
